Rocky Hill, CT – May 8th, 2018 – We are proud to announce that National Physician Services received the esteemed certification to become HITRUST Certified. Health Information Trust Alliance, or HITRUST, is a privately held company located in the United States that, in collaboration with healthcare, technology and information security leaders, has established a Common Security Framework (CSF) that can be used by all organizations that create, access, store or exchange sensitive and/or regulated data. The CSF includes a prescriptive set of controls that seek to harmonize the requirements of multiple regulations and standards.
To ensure the protection of patients’ private medical information the government created HIPPA, which is a Privacy Rule that gives you rights over your health information and sets the rules/limits on who can look at and receive that information. It acts as an obstacle and a barrier of entry, but because of the subjective nature of HIPPA and variability in audits, it is difficult to assess the compliance and security of external vendors as well of internal projects. This is why HITRUST was introduced. HITRUST builds upon HIPPA and is an industry driven security requirements to standardize compliance framework and provides a certification process that benefits both the vendors and entities. Instead of acting as an obstacle, HITRUST acts as a core pillar that was created on the belief that information security should not be treated as an afterthought.
As a security first organization, National Physician Services (NPS) has been working diligently for a year to achieve this goal. “We are offering a security program for the medical community that ensures the highest standard of data protection and risk mitigation”, said Bryan Graven CEO of NPS. “This program gives our user community a piece of mind that their information is protected through our process and the investments we have made to secure mission critical information.”
“This is a significant badge for security and compliance but this certificate is not our finish line for us”, said Daniel Contaldi. “We continue to enhance our security program and the it is mission critical for our business to continue efforts to maintain our HITRUST Certification.” NPS has an ongoing procedure that improves the privacy and security for the systems and data it protects. The focus on this effort is continuous, healthcare has become a challenging landscape that requires certifications like this to provide the roadmap, and elements necessary for ensuring a security program is adequate.
